We brought our child to the emergency department after an accidental ingestion of a prescribed medication, following Poison Control guidance and seeking care promptly and in good faith.

While our child was ultimately fine, the experience was more stressful than expected. During the visit, the tone and manner of some interactions made us feel more like we were under suspicion than being supported as parents seeking help, which was difficult during an already frightening situation.

A report was made to Child Protective Services, and CPS later informed us that no negligence or abuse was found. We understand and respect mandated reporting requirements, but the overall experience left us feeling uneasy rather than reassured.

I hope the hospital continues improving how these situations are handled so families who seek emergency care in good faith feel supported, informed, and treated with compassion.

DeeAnn Bean is a phenomenal PA that I’m very lucky to have chosen. This is a someone who makes you feel heard. Dr. Bean actually take the time to listen at every appointment and never rushes you along. Dr. Bean asks questions, does research right there on the spot and works with you so that you are comfortable with and understand the treatments being prescribed.

    They treat you with Hospitality.
    Quick about checking you in.
Escorting you to the proper place showing you where you might need to go for any refreshments or bathroom necessity knowing they are remodeling the hospital. Thanks for all your services. Nurses + staff were friendly and great!

We brought our child here after following Poison Control’s instructions for an accidental ingestion of a lawfully prescribed medication.

Instead of receiving focused toxicology care, a CPS report was initiated, and my wife was treated as a suspected child abuser during a medical emergency. The experience was frightening, humiliating, and unnecessary.
CPS later confirmed the report should never have been made and did not meet Texas criteria for abuse or neglect.

Parents should think carefully before seeking care here for accidental injuries or ingestion. This hospital demonstrated poor training on mandatory reporting, a willingness to escalate families into abuse investigations, and a process that left us feeling criminalized for asking for help.

No family should be put through that.
