April 27, 2026 at 12:28 pmI started going to Abhaya this past fall to complete my 200 hour teacher training and am so grateful I did. The course exceeded my expectations and Tara is such a welcoming, humble, knowledgable, and inspirational teacher.
The classes are challenging but I never felt pushed to go farther than I was comfortable with. I have noticed myself get stronger and my alignment has improved- but for me, it really was beyond physical accomplishments. I learned so much spiritually and emotionally from taking class at Abhaya (and I hope to continue to!)
It’s truly a beautiful community and I’m so glad to be a part of it. Highly, highly recommend.

I completed my 200-hour YTT here and am currently working through my 300-hour training, which speaks volumes about how much I trust and value this space. Abhaya isn’t your average yoga studio; it’s a genuine school and an invaluable resource for deepening your understanding of yoga.

It deepened my relationship with yoga in a way I didn’t even know I was looking for and completely confirmed how I want to teach and share this practice. The training helped me slow down, trust myself, and understand yoga as something much bigger than just the physical poses. I feel prepared and confident to teach and support others, and so excited to make yoga a bigger part of my life. Studying therapeutic approaches to asana as well as ancient scriptures such as the Bhagavad Gita go hand-in-hand here along with discovering community and healing physically, mentally, and spiritually. I first heard the call to study Yoga more intensely around 15 years ago and finally found the perfect place to study under Tara’s masterful, passionate, and energetic guidance. Learning the 4 pillars framework that Tara has developed to teach asana is invaluable and will forever guide my practice and how I teach others. I highly recommend Abhaya to anyone seeking a true introduction to Yoga. After completing my 200hr, I was inspired to do my 300hr here. I’m honored to call this studio a home away from home and cannot recommend Tara and Abhaya enough to anyone seeking a true Yoga experience in NYC. I am also deeply grateful for the community of practitioners and Abhaya teachers I continue to learn from here.
