Nestled on the shores of Lake George in New York’s Adirondack Mountains, The Sagamore is more than just a luxury resort; it’s a storied symbol of American hospitality and leisure. With its breathtaking views, rich history, and unparalleled service, The Sagamore has become a beloved destination for tourists seeking a serene escape and a glimpse into the past.
The Sagamore’s roots can be traced back to the late 19th century. Originally established in 1883, the resort was built as a cottage by the wealthy railway magnate Frederick William Vanderbilt. Vanderbilt’s vision for the property was to create a luxurious retreat for affluent families, and it quickly became a sought-after destination in the New York social scene.
In 1926, The Sagamore evolved into a grand hotel, undergoing significant renovations that solidified its status as a premier vacation spot. The hotel has welcomed numerous famous guests over the decades, including presidents, celebrities, and notable figures, solidifying its place in American history.
One of the most striking features of The Sagamore is its stunning architecture. The original building showcases a distinct blend of Adirondack charm and elegant design, with its wooden beams, grand porches, and expansive views of the lake. The resort features a variety of accommodations, from opulent suites in the main hotel to cozy cottages scattered throughout the lush grounds.
The most iconic aspect is the hotel’s covered porch, which offers sweeping views of the lake and surrounding mountains—an ideal spot for relaxation and contemplation. Guests often gather here to sip on cocktails, share stories, and enjoy the serene beauty of the environment.
The Sagamore has evolved over the years while still honoring its historic roots. The resort offers a plethora of amenities to enhance every guest’s experience. A world-class spa provides rejuvenating treatments that harness local ingredients and traditional techniques, while the on-site dining options feature culinary delights crafted from fresh, local produce.
For those who love outdoor activities, The Sagamore is ideally situated for exploration. From paddleboarding and kayaking on the crystal-clear lake to hiking trails that wind through the picturesque Adirondack wilderness, there’s no shortage of adventure. In the winter, the area transforms into a snowy paradise, with opportunities for skiing, snowshoeing, and ice skating.
As The Sagamore continues to thrive as a luxury resort, it remains committed to preserving its rich history and nurturing a sense of community among guests. The staff prides itself on offering personalized service, ensuring that every visitor feels like a part of the resort’s legacy.
The Sagamore is not just a place to stay; it’s an experience steeped in history, beauty, and warmth. For those seeking a retreat that balances relaxation with exploration, The Sagamore remains an unparalleled destination, capturing the hearts of all who visit. In a world that often feels fast-paced and transient, The Sagamore stands as a timeless reminder of the beauty of leisure and the importance of connection—both with nature and with one another.

May 6, 2026 at 1:16 pmWe couldn’t be happier with our experience at The Sagamore! From the moment we were booked, it was clear that this community genuinely values both its residents and their pets. As dog owners ourselves, it’s not always easy to find a place that’s truly pet-friendly, but The Sagamore goes above and beyond.
It’s clear they’ve thoughtfully created an environment where pets are not just allowed, they’re embraced. The building is clean, safe, and filled with fellow pet lovers, which makes it feel like home right away.
It’s refreshing to see a management team that not only understands the importance of pet-friendly living but also actively fosters a community that’s respectful, kind, and supportive of small businesses like ours.
If you’re looking for a place in Manhattan where both you and your dog will feel right at home, The Sagamore is it!

May 6, 2026 at 1:16 pmUnfortunately, I haven’t gotten the chance to live here but hope to someday soon. However, this review is in regards to Tiffany, Brynn, Diego and the entire leasing team who were so wonderful, helpful, and gracious during a very frustrating leasing debacle with my work. I found out about 72 hrs after signing the lease paperwork that I wouldn’t be able to take NYC residency full time due to my role and the team at the Sagamore was able to cancel my lease and are working on returning my deposits and fees at present. My sincere hope is to get to rent with them in the coming years as after this experience, I have no doubt they run a wonderful complex. Thank you all again for all of your help. You are the absolute best.

May 6, 2026 at 1:16 pmI moved across to NY from the UK about 2 months ago with only a short time to find an apartment. I feel really lucky to have landed on my feet in finding my way to the Sagamore. The whole experience has been entirely positive. Really good guidance from Brynn in sorting out the details of leasing in the US through to the welcoming and ever helpful support team. Great experience all round and very happy to give a very high rating.

May 6, 2026 at 1:16 pmThe Sagamore at 189 W 89th Street is an absolute dream. We have had a terrific experience starting from the viewing, to the application process, to the move, and beyond. Brynn Jones, a member of the building’s property and leasing management team, was incredibly communicative, direct, consistent, and kind, and went out of her way to make our process seamless and simple. And we could not end this review without recognizing the concierge team and the other staff members. They are so courteous and diligent – we adore all of them.
